Week 2 – Paid Online Genealogy Tools: Which paid genealogy tool do you appreciate the most? What special features put it at the top of your list? How can it help others with their genealogy research?Ancestry.com is the only thing in my arsenal that is a paid tool; simple one stop shopping for the most part. I can do general look-ups on people, I can scour the card catalogues, I can connect with cousins I didn’t know I had… for what I pay a month that is quite an accomplishment! No it isn’t perfect, yes I do get frustrated sometimes, but you know what? It is a lot easier than having to fly across the county to try and look up a record that may or may not be there.
In fact, it has led me on some of my greatest genealogical adventures to date. Got me started on paths I may not have thought about and kept the ball rolling with a continuous stream of ideas and possibilities.

Ancestry.com is my go to online tool also! Last year, while researching my Cherokee line, I e-mailed probably 10 people on ancesty that had a common ancestor and one actually replied!! We ended up having a family reunion in Oklahoma late last year and it was unbelievable!!
ReplyDeleteWow that is wonderful! I have connected with 5 people from different parts of my family line thanks to Ancestry. Maybe someday I will get to meet up with them as well!
